July 24, 2008 – A Concert of Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys

On 24 July 2008, Gavin Friday participated in Rogue’s Gallery at The Sage in Gateshead. This concert continued the series of maritime-themed performances produced by Hal Willner, featuring a lineup of artists presenting sea shanties and sailor songs. Friday performed alongside artists such as Tim Robbins, Teddy & Kami Thompson, Jenni Muldaur, The Divine Comedy, Chris Difford, Shane MacGowan, Robyn Hitchcock, Baby Gramps, and Rachel & Becky Unthank.

The Journal wrote:

“A smattering of highlights would be Oscar winner, Mr Robbins taking the lead mic for My Son John, Sandy Dillon pleading Leave Her Johnny and Gavin Friday giving the Baltimore Whores food for thought.

The house band included musical director Kate St John, guitarist Leo Abrahams, drummer Andy Newmark, bassist Dudley Phillips, musical saw player David Coulter, and percussionist Martyn Barker.
