Hal Willner - Rogue's Gallery Live, Dublin
July 18, 2008 – A Concert of Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys
On 18 July 2008, Gavin Friday performed at Rogue’s Gallery, a concert of sea shanties and maritime songs held at Grand Canal Square in Dublin. Produced by Hal Willner, the event was part of the ANALOG Festival and featured a diverse lineup of artists interpreting traditional nautical music. Friday reunited on stage with his former Virgin Prunes bandmates Guggi and Dave-id Busaras, marking their first live performance together in 25 years. The trio, known as the “Three Pruned Men,” had previously contributed to the Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys album.
The idea for Rogue’s Gallery was born on the set of the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
The house band included Kate St John (Musical Director) Leo Abrahams (guitar), Andy Newmark (drums), Dudley Phillips (bass), David Coulter (musical saw) and Martyn Barker (percussion).
The concert also featured performances by Teddy Thompson, Waterson:Carthy, David Thomas (Pere Ubu), Julie Fowlis, Baby Gramps, Ed Harcourt, and Rachel Unthank & The Winterset.
