Michael Heffernan

Michael Heffernan is a London-based mixer, engineer, and producer whose long-standing collaboration with Gavin Friday has become a defining part of his career. Originally from Dublin, Michael began his journey in music as a techno DJ, performing in clubs around the city. In 2008, he made the transition into studio work, becoming an assistant engineer at Temple Lane Studios. His technical skill and creative instincts quickly propelled him to the role of head engineer, where he worked with artists including The Swedish House Mafia, Il Divo, Dermot Kennedy, The Script, Morrissey, and Howie B.

Michael’s partnership with Gavin Friday began during this period and has deepened over the years into a close creative alliance. In 2013, he was the mixing engineer for Blood Rising, the soundtrack to a documentary produced and scored by Friday. Their collaboration continued through a wide range of recording and production work, leading to one of Michael’s most significant projects to date: Friday’s 2024 album Ecce Homo. As co-producer, engineer, and mixer, Michael played a central role in shaping the sound of this emotionally charged and sonically rich record, which was recorded between studios in Dublin and London.

In 2016, Michael set up his own production and mixing suite in Dublin’s Portobello district, where he continued to work with both emerging Irish talent and internationally recognized acts. His work during this period further cemented his reputation as a versatile and intuitive producer.

Now based in London, Michael focuses primarily on mixing and recording. His studio work continues to be defined by meticulous attention to detail, creative collaboration, and a deep commitment to the artists he works with—qualities that are especially evident in his ongoing work with Gavin Friday.
